North Carolina-based interior designer and blogger Niki McNeill maintains a philosophy that color is personal; it’s a reflection of your style. Here, she discusses the importance of color in any space, and why the ColorSnap® Color ID Dreamer palette from Sherwin-Williams® was essential to making her own house feel like home.

Curating with Color

I believe that the colors you use to anchor your space are a reflection of who you are and what you’re drawn to. Wall color is the element that ties the room together. Paint is one of the easiest things to change in a room, and it’s also one of the most impactful. Wall color has the power to change your whole perspective.

Designing Our Dream Home

Before my husband and I moved into our home in Raleigh, I turned to the Color ID quiz from Sherwin-Williams for help defining a color palette that fit both of us. The quiz is easy: You answer a few simple questions, and you’re paired with a paint palette that reflects your personality.

I was matched with the Color ID Dreamer palette, which is spot-on for me and my aesthetic. As a business owner, I am a dreamer at heart. The colors in this palette feel just like me. My wardrobe is filled with grays, warm tones, and saturated colors, and the Color ID Dreamer palette has all of these. The icing on the cake was that my husband loved it, too.

Creating an Inviting Space

I wanted to make sure our open concept dining area and kitchen felt serene and peaceful. I also always want to create something that feels timeless and cohesive. Luckily, this was easy with the Color ID Dreamer palette. Each of the 16 colors can be mixed and matched, and they all look amazing together. The colors I chose really brought my project to life. Ultimately, I decided on Secret Cove SW 9058 for an accent wall and Pure White SW 7005 for the trim and baseboards because the colors are almost spa-like. Secret Cove reminds me of water, which makes me feel at peace, and Pure White really helps it pop.
